The Royal Hawaiian Resort is a beachfront hotel in Waikiki offering a blend of historic elegance and modern aquatic amenities, with private cabanas available for rent. Main Pool Complex The resort features two primary pool areas: Malulani Pool: This beachfront, freshwater pool is set within a tranquil garden oasis exclusively for Royal Hawaiian guests. It operates seasonally—summer (May–August) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and winter (September–April) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.—and includes an adjacent jacuzzi with matching seasonal hours. Poolside chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and any unattended chairs may be released after two hours. Private poolside cabanas, each furnished with an L-shaped sectional, two chaise lounges, and a table (accommodating up to five people), can be reserved. Daily bottled water is provided to each cabana guest by beach and pool attendants. Helumoa Playground: Shared with Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort, this family-friendly water complex operates daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with waterslide hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It includes two freshwater swimming pools, two whirlpool spas for guests aged 16 and over, a 15-foot-high by 70-foot-long water slide, interactive fountains, and water chaise lounges. Towels and pool accessories are available at the pool hut. Although lifeguards are not on duty here, Beach and Pool Ambassadors are present to assist guests. Private cabanas by the pool can also be reserved for added comfort. Beach Area & Rentals Positioned directly on the wide sands of Waikiki Beach, the Royal Hawaiian offers seamless beach access. While the shoreline is public, registered guests may borrow towels at Malulani Pool and rent private cabanas by the water. The beach cabanas feature cushioned seating and shade, with attendants available to fulfill guest requests. A variety of watersports equipment—such as stand-up paddleboards, surfboards (with lessons available), snorkel gear, and kayaks—can be rented as well. Lifeguards patrol portions of the beachfront, but conditions can vary, so guests are advised to stay aware of current surf advisories.
